Isabelle's First Vacation

Isabelle snoozing in the sling
I am way behind in posting this but I want to record our vacation to the San Juan Islands. It was full of firsts for Isabelle and she was a dream baby. I was pretty nervous about the flight. Isabelle has strong preferences and opinions. She likes to sleep in her bed and she likes her space. I can't imagine where this independent streak comes from. Anyway, this made me nervous about flying across the country with her. It is a long travel day to get from Washington DC to the San Juan Islands, including a 5 1/2 hr flight to Seattle, a 90 minute drive to my sisters where we crashed for the night (we arrived at her house at 2 am DC time), then a 2 hour drive to Anacortes where we waited in line for the ferry for an hour, then an hour long ferry ride. I was nervous about how she would do, but she was wonderful. I was so grateful. I was also very grateful for my sweet husband and everything he did to help and for putting up with me. He must love me or something.

One quick side story about Matthew. He packed his laptop so he could work on the trip. On the plane Matthew was working away and his sprite spilled on his brand new macbook air. The screen immediately went black. I expected him to be upset, maybe even a little mad. All he said was, "That's too bad." I was amazed. I'm so happy to be married to such an even tempered man. There would be fireworks in our house if he wasn't.

It was so good to see my family. I hadn't seen them since Christmas and only my parents and my brother Ben had met Isabelle. I didn't realize how fun it would be to show off my baby. I loved it. I also loved meeting all of my new nieces and nephews for the first time.

I did a lot of baby holding, a little sleeping and listened to a lot of family stories. Matthew did a lot of Isabelle snuggling, a little boating and absolutely no work. Isabelle did a lot of watching, laughing and she got a lot of Grandma time. She was passed all around and didn't mind it one bit.

Isabelle really got a lot of Daddy time. Matthew was very attentive. He let Isabelle "play" in a doll's bed and he decided to teach her how to drive on this trip.

All the grandkids lined up in birth order. Isabelle is the second to last.
Isabellie-Roo is #25

This last picture is one of my favorites. We had the Seal Family Olympics again this year. One of the games involved wearing a pair of nylons on your head with a tennis ball in the toe.
