Today is one of those days when you just feel exhausted and want to wear your favorite pair of leggings and your husband’s t-shirt while eating not-good-for-you-food. Isabelle has not been sleeping well lately, especially not today. Our apartment building is doing maintenance work on the fire alarm system. It's pretty hard for her to sleep while listening to "Attention! There is a fire emergency reported in the building!" every ten seconds accompanied by a siren. So Isabelle has been tired and sensitive today. I really have no room to complain, she is a dream baby. What 2 1/2 month old sleeps for 11 hours straight? Yeah, I have been so spoiled.

Before going out of town last month Isabelle was still sleeping between 10 and 11 hours at night, napping great and putting her little swaddled self to sleep. After two six hour airplane rides and a three hour time change life never settled back into the old routine. And now that Isabelle is (has been for a while) rolling over, we are trying to ween our little houdini from her swaddle blanket. This morning Isabelle had both legs free and both hands in her mouth, so it is definitely time to start transitioning to sleeping without the swaddle blanket. This means that she sleeps with one arm in and one arm out.

Recently Isabelle discovered that she has control of her hands; her new favorite game involves putting as many objects in her mouth as possible. As you can imagine, having your favorite toy attached to your arm makes for a hard time falling asleep. We have been spending a lot of time in the rocking chair lately, while I sing made up songs that only partially rhyme and repeat over and over. So far Isabelle hasn’t complained. Even though I am feeling a little more sleep deprived than normal, we have had lots of late-night sweet moments together. Isabelle is especially smiley and cuddly when she is tired. I love the way she burrows her little head into the crook of my arm when she wants to sleep but needs help getting there.
